Google Opinion Rewards launched towards the end of 2013 is one of the newer survey panels on the block.   The app created by Google provides quick surveys you can complete on your android enabled smartphone in exchange for Google Play Credits which can then be spent on any apps or content you like on the Google Play Store.   There are no options for cashing out “actual cash”, though it’s a bit of easy fun on your android device.

Because it’s from Google you know it’s a survey panel you can really trust and about 5 million others trust too.

Google opinion rewards is currently available in the US, Canada, UK and Australia with more countries potentially on the horizon.   The appeal for many perhaps is that the app is open to anyone over the age of 13+ so students who perhaps aren’t able to get a job of their own can earn themselves some apps for their smartphone or tablet device.

First Impressions of Google Opinion Rewards

Google Opinion Rewards is only accessible on an android enabled device, not on the web. Fortunately the app is well optimized for a range of popular smartphones and it’s very easy to work your way around.

The first step is to answer a few short questions which should take you about 30 seconds and then you’ll be ready to go.

The first survey you will be given is a test survey which will determine whether you are eligible to receive further invitations, you won’t receive any rewards for this however it will only take about 1 minute of your time.   It shouldn’t take long to get approved, and you could be completing your first survey the same hour.

Overall the app is very simple, you don’t need to open it up too often, any surveys you are sent after this point will appear as a notification on your smartphone (like a text, or email).

A useful aspect is that you can see exactly how many questions you need to answer, and where you are within this timeframe, they are usually very short (a minute or less) so you can complete them with ease any time of the day.

There are no guarantees how many surveys you will be given or when, just wait for the notification to appear on your smartphone and you will usually have 24 hours to respond to the survey invitation.  After which point the survey will disappear and you will need to wait for the next one.
The level of surveys really depends on the answers you give, however don’t expect to receive regular surveys each week.

What are the rewards like?

The first survey I received about 3 minutes after completing the test survey.  It was a one question survey: “Are you parent to a child”, no other questions, the reward was $1 which is great!  In fact a lot of the surveys are only one or two questions. The credit is added instantly and can be spent in the play store instantly, or you can build your credit up from other surveys.

There is no limit to what you can spend your credit on, use it to pay for games, books, music, movies or other apps on the Play Store.  All credits earned are directly deposited into your Google Play account and won’t be taken away if you decide to uninstall the app, which is good.

One of the drawbacks perhaps, is that the information you give within the app may be used to help Google improve the ads that they serve you online and some other Google services.  Essentially the more they know about you, the better chance they have of showing you the ads you will be most interested in.

This comes down to personal preference, some people will be put off by this, others won’t mind, it really depends on how you personally feel.

What is the general feedback for Google Opinion Rewards like?

The general feedback for Google Opinion Rewards is very positive, the apps average review on Google Play is 4 stars out of 5 from 90,000 people and reviews around the rest of the web seem to mirror this too.

Like anything there are people who aren’t completely positive, however for the most part, people are happy with the app.  There’s not too much to complain about really..if you find after some time that it’s not worth your time, just uninstall it and all is not lost.  You can still spend any credits you have earned up until then.

Should you join Google Opinion Rewards?

It’s great for some free Google Play Credit from time to time, but you should not expect to make a huge amount from it.  Either way, for the time that you put in you can’t really complain and you should not find it too difficult to earn yourself a free album, movie or several games for your android device.
